Top 5 Wardrobe Staples

The following are my top 5 staples for mixing and matching outfits, everyday wear, and dressing up and dressing down. My staple go to’s allow you to work in virtually ANY colors you would like.

#1: Dark Denim Skinny Jeans- find your favorite pair of skinny jeans and hold on to them tight! Skinny jeans are so versatile. You can basically wear them with everything and for multiple occasions. They work with boots, flats and heels. Blazers, tunics, button ups, and slouchy shirts. A dark denim wash will ensure the versatility of the denim. Denim can easily be dress down, but also can be used to spice up an outfit. I love to mix skinny jeans in with a Blazer and sequins top (finished off with great heels) for a wonderful and comfortable night out. Skinny jeans are great for all season and you will definitely get your wear out of them!

#2: Brown Flats- Flats are great for the obvious reason of giving your feet a break. The great thing with brown flats is that they look good with almost any color. I actually love mixing brown with black so this is an excellent shoe for me! Black and brown give you the most versatility and look complement each other in a very classy, sophisticated way. Again, this is a great staple because it gives you an option to dress up or dress down. Flats work with pants and dresses 🙂

#3: Black Blazer- as I’ve referenced above, I love a good blazer! Black allows you to mix and match with a lot more, but feel free to get in another color. Blazers look great with dress slacks, jeans, and skirts. One important rule to wearing a blazer is to make sure it is a fitted blazer. Oversized blazer can make you look frumpy and take away from the outfit. You can use your blazer for an important business meeting and then transition it to a happy hour with your girlfriends. Blazers compliment a wide variety of tops as well.

#4: Cream/Tan Cardigan- having a neutral color cardigan allows you to pair it with any outfit. Cardigans are excellent pieces for casual wear and to add in with a sleeveless top for work or leisure. Cardigans look beautiful with layers so try it with multiple looks!

#5: White V-neck Shirt- The white v-neck shirt is a classic staple that is more than necessary. If you are having a “messy bun” type day, you throw on your white v-neck and jeans and you are good to go! White v-necks are great for layering or using as a base for any coupled color whether it be a jacket, cardigan, sweaters, color pant, etc. An easy reserve is a Hanes White V-neck but my favorites to use are the Boyfriend Tee from Target ($8) or the Vintage Tee from Old Navy ($9). They do not hug around the midsection and they still allow you to keep your shape and flatter your bust.
